Resisting her brother’s best friend is futile…
Faith Fitzpatrick isn’t looking for a hero. Burned one too many times in the past, she’s now sworn them off completely. And when her brother’s best friend, Connor, convinces him to join the dangerous SWAT team, Faith has never been more anti-hero. What’s wrong with having a safe job? There’s nothing safe about Connor. Confident, sexy, and sporting a six-pack that should be illegal, he’s everything she doesn’t want.
When his best friend’s sister moves to town, local cop Connor Maguire knows he’s in trouble. Faith is feisty, funny, and talks trash like nobody’s business. She’s also his partner’s sister—and so totally off limits. Working on the Fall Festival together, they agree to a truce and become friends. But the more time Connor spends with Faith, the more he’s willing to risk the wrath of her brother. If he could only convince her to take a risk on him, too.
About the Author:
Cindi Madsen sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier. She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they’re sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long.
She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children. She is the author of YA novels All the Broken Pieces and Demons of the Sun, adult contemporary romances Falling for Her Fiancé and Act Like You love Me, and the women’s fiction novel Cinderella Screwed Me Over.
So welcome Cindi! I’m so happy you’re here again. It’s always awesome having you here. Now I really, really want to hear about your most awesome moment in life.
Life’s most awesome moment
As I was trying to figure out what to put for my life’s most awesome moment, a lot of things came to mind. Memories with my best friend, getting married to my husband, the birth of all of my children—they really are little miracles. But since this is a post to celebrate the release of Resisting the Hero, I’m going to talk a little bit about my road to publication, and how a dream I’d had for a very long time finally came true.
After I had my first beautiful baby girl, I found myself struggling with the long days where my little bundle of joy mostly wanted to cry at me. Even though I’d always wanted to be a mom, I was completely unprepared for how hard it would be. During the day when she’d nap, I’d pick up a book and escape from life for a little while. I probably should’ve slept, too, but I kept going to the library for more books to help get me through the day. I’d always been a fairly big reader, and I’d always had stories in my head, so one day, I decided to try to type one up. Something just clicked, and suddenly I was more than a worn-out mom with a fussy baby. I was a writer. A couple of my family members and my awesome best friend read that first book, and they liked it! When I recall everything I did wrong in that book, I think they were super nice to say such good things about it. Despite the story being rejected by a few agents, it gave me the drive to keep going.
So I wrote more and more books and had two more kids along the way. I got rejected every time I sent out a new book—we’re talking hundreds of rejections. I wanted to quit sometimes, but then I’d get a new idea and be sure it’d be the book that got me published. I found a critique group and got feedback—it was hard, but I grew a ton. Now my writing was where it needed to be! So I submitted. This time I had people reading full manuscripts. I got a lot of “we like this, but (fill in the blank that still meant they were rejected it). Many times I got discouraged, but my amazing family and friends cheered me up and encouraged me. I told myself the only way I’d for sure never be published was to give up. So I kept going, and then, one awesome day, I got an email from an editor at Entangled that said they wanted to publish my book! I laughed, shouted, cried, and repeated the process. It was seriously one of the best moments of my life, and I’ll never forget it.
There’ve been lots of awesome moments in my career from that point on—like the time a friend tweeted me to say that Falling for Her Fiancé was on the homepage of Barnes and Noble as a bestseller! And it all started with that email from an editor who gets my work. Seriously awesome! Resisting the Hero marks the end of the Accidentally in Love Series, and it’s bittersweet for it to end, but I’m also really excited for the next book adventure. So I guess that’s all my awesome moments strung together, making me the writer—and person—I am today.
Thanks Cindi, for taking the time to be here once again.
